The Trio
A bleak sonic aesthetic
The Wright Valley Trio is a doom and sludge metal band from Wiesbaden, Germany. Founded in 2013 by Dominique Fricker (Von Doom, guitar and vocals), Robert Krause (bass and synthesizers), and Matthias Rodig (drums), the trio writes long-form compositions that move between droning repetition and slow, heavy riffs.
Named after the Wright Valley in Antarctica, a dry, ice-free landscape, the music shares that aesthetic: long, slow, low-tuned, and built on patience. Compositions often run beyond 20 minutes, layering guitars, bass, drums, and sparingly used synthesizers.
