Press quotes
“Crushingly heavy, atmospheric and huge sounding, like spiraling slowly inwards toward the black hole at the center of the universe.”
Der Weg (English: “The Way”) is The Wright Valley Trio’s monumental doom metal epic, released in October 2021. Spanning three chapters and exceeding three hours in total length, the album was recorded at IronBar Studio with Lorenz Blümler. Low-tuned guitars, harmonium, and synths carry listeners through dense droning passages, sudden blasts of rage, and long fields of almost meditative stillness - a full-length confrontation with hopelessness, self-destruction, and the way back out.
About
“Am I on a journey with no destination or return? That’s it? Just a mere vision of madness? Consumed by just two thoughts; two giants with boundless rage and unbridled power beating at the gray mass which once was home to something one could call character. Hopelessness and self-destruction, and with them alcohol and soon other drug abuse, take hold. At least they promise to free me from the all-enveloping loneliness. That’s the way I’ve taken.”
Der Weg challenges listeners with an inevitable confrontation of themselves while breaking all boundaries of conventional music. The beats and riffs create a world which makes listeners feel the viscous tar that life can be. A world of rapid blasts providing them with adrenaline rushes. And a world with almost peaceful-seeming fields of harmonium and synths; taking the listeners on an almost spiritual journey.
