Hailing from Wiesbaden, Germany, our band specializes in a unique blend of Doom, Sludge, and Post-Black Metal. Drawing inspiration from one of the most desolate places on earth, a vast, arid valley in Antarctica, our music eschews warmth and comfort in favor of creating monumental soundscapes. Our hallmark is the composition of exceptionally long tracks that traverse the spectrum from meticulously crafted monotony to powerful, heavy riffs.

The Wright Valley Trio is a metal band based in Wiesbaden, Germany. Their musical style blends elements of doom, sludge, and post-black metal, characterized by monumental long-form compositions that oscillate between droning repetition and massive riff structures. The band name references the desolate Wright Valley in Antarctica — a stark, inhospitable landscape that mirrors the band’s cold, bleak sonic aesthetic. Founded in 2013 by Dominique Fricker (aka “Von Doom” – guitar/vocals), Robert Krause (bass/guitar/synths), and Matthias Rodig (drums), the trio had already collaborated on previous projects before solidifying their sound as The Wright Valley Trio. Over the past decade, they have released a series of EPs and albums, including their debut Tombstones and Penguins (2015), followed by Shackleton (2017), Submarine Funeral (2018), Berus Eins (2020), and the full-length albums Der Weg (2021) and Metal Doom (2022). In 2023, they released the split album Bitter Altar with Blackstaff. Additional EPs are scheduled for release in 2024 and 2025. The band’s artistic identity is shaped by a strict focus on atmosphere and sonic minimalism. Reviews describe their work as eerie, heavy, and deliberately repetitive — with compositions often exceeding 20 minutes in length, creating slow-building soundscapes that demand immersive listening. Thematically, their releases explore isolation, decay, and desolate natural forces, with track titles such as Dein Grab, Metal Doom, and Bitter Altar reinforcing their stark aesthetic. True to their vision, The Wright Valley Trio operates fully independently without a label, publishing their material directly via platforms like Bandcamp. This DIY approach allows the band full creative control, and underscores their uncompromising stance within the experimental metal underground.
